These are the ideas that influenced this piece, both conceptually and compositionally.
I was very focused on the process of making this piece; working in a very structured,
carefully considered way, building the illusion versus reality, and creating a space
that extends beyond the edges of the canvas.
I was also influenced by going out and finding and recording these native plant species,
and then elevating them in status and making them holy; as well as thinking
about the fact that there may come a time when these plants
become relics to put on display.
